إفتتح الرئيس السيراليوني الدكتور جوليوس مادا بيو أول مصنع لمعالجة الكاكاو في البلاد،وقام بتشغيله،وهو تابع لشركة “كابيتول فودز” التي تملكها عائلة هاشم اللبنانية ، ما يخلق فرص عمل للسكان المحليين في البلاد.
يذكر أن “كابيتال فودز”هي شركة لتصنيع الفاكهة والأغذية ، وتعمل حاليًا على تطوير أول شركة معالجة وتعبئة تعصائر الفاكهة الطبيعية في البلاد، لتصبح الشركة الرائدة في قطاع الصناعات الزراعية في البلاد.
وجرى حفل الافتتاح في قرية “تيسور” في مقاطعة “كنما” شرقي البلاد ،وألقى في مستهله الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة Capitol Foods Limited حمزة هاشم كلمة قال فيها إن الشركة كانت واحدة من أوائل تجار ومصدري الكاكاو بعد الحرب ،والتي ما زالت تلعب دورًا حاسمًا في إحياء قطاع الكاكاو والقهوة المتعثر في البلاد.
وأضاف أنه “بدعم من وزارة الزراعة ومن خلال مشروع “صندوق تنمية الأعمال التجارية الزراعية في سيراليون” ، تم تدريب 2831 مزارعًا على أفضل الممارسات الزراعية ، والمكافحة المتكاملة للآفات ، وتقنيات إدارة الأمراض.
وأشار إلى أن المشروع يهدف إلى العمل مع المزارعين الريفيين لتحسين انتاجهم ، بالإضافة إلى إنشاء خط معالجة جماعية للكاكاو من شأنه تحسين قيمة المنتجات وتحسين الأسعار للمزارعين.
من جهته قال الرئيس التنفيذي لمجلس تسويق الإنتاج في الدولة SLPMB ، الدكتور جيمس فيبي ، إنه سعيد بمشاهدة التقدم في أول مصنع لمعالجة الكاكاو في البلاد ، مضيفًا أن المصنع سيضيف قيمة أكبر لإنتاج الكاكاو في السوق الدولية. وأشار كذلك إلى أن الحكومة خططت لإنشاء مصنع واحد في كل منطقة من مناطق البلاد.
أضاف: يمكن لهذا المصنع أن ينتج قدرة سنوية تبلغ 4000 طن متري ، تخدم كلاً من السوق المحلية وسوق التصدير. وسيوفر فرص عمل وسيحقق المزيد من التنمية للمجتمع المحلي.
وفي بيان مقتضب ، قال الرئيس الدكتور مادا بيو إن بناء المصنع جزء من حملة تنمية رأس المال البشري في البلاد ،حيث يتم الآن معالجة الكاكاو. ودعا الجهات الفاعلة الأخرى في القطاع الخاص إلى البدء في التفكير في معالجة المنتجات المحلية في البلاد.
كما أعرب الرئيس بيو عن سعادته لرؤية هذا التطور يحدث خلال فترة ولايته ، وأعرب عن أمله في أن تؤدي هذه الجهود إلى نقل المهارات ، وتطوير المنطقة ، وقبل كل شيء ، تحقيق المزيد من الإيرادات للبلاد.
وقال إن لهذا المصنع قيمة لدى تجارة الكاكاو وهو جيد لبلدنا واقتصادنا،شاكراالقيمين على اتخاذ هذه الخطوة العملاقة ،قائلا: “بارك الله بكم “.
وبعد ذلك قص الرئيس بيو شريط الافتتاح في حضور كل من رئيس الوزراء ووزير المالية وفاعليات دولية ومحلية وعدد من ممثلي الجالية اللبنانية ،ثم قام بجولة في المصنع اطلع خلالها على التجهيزات وطريقة العمل وأطلق عملية تشغيل المصنع.
يذكر أن الأسوق الأوروبية هي الوجهة الرئيسية للانتاج ،إلا أن كابيتال فودز تتطلع أيضا لتسويق إنتاجها في الشرق الأوسط.

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio Commissions Cocoa Processing Factory in Kenema with Annual Capacity of 4,000 Metric Tons
Tissor Village, Kenema District, Saturday 23 October 2021 – His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio has commissioned a cocoa processing factory of Capitol Foods in Tissor Village, making it the first in the country, and creating employment for the local people of that community.
Capitol Foods is a fruit and food processing company, currently developing the first natural fruit processing and bottling company in the country with a mission, according to its leadership, to become the leading firm in the agri-industrial sector in the country.
Co-founder and CEO at Capitol Foods Limited, Hamza Hashim, said his company was one of the earliest post-war cocoa traders and exporters that was still playing a crucial role in reviving the flagging cocoa and coffee sector in the country.
He added that with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and through the Sierra Leone Agribusiness Development Fund, SLADF, project, they had conducted training for 2,831 farmers on several topics like best agricultural practices, integrated pest control, and disease management technics.
“In 2018, Capitol secured a $600,000 grant from SLADF towards financing and improving yields and quality standards. The project aims at working with rural farmers to improve their yields, in addition to establishing a Cocoa Mass Processing Line which will improve the value of products and improve prices for the farmers,” he noted.
Executive Chairman of the country’s Producing Marketing Board, SLPMB, Dr James Vibbi, said he was happy to witness progress at the first cocoa processing factory in the country, adding that the factory would add more value to cocoa production for the international market. He further noted that the government had planned to have one factory in each of the districts of the country.
“Your Excellency, this factory can produce an annual capacity of 4,000 metric tons that can serve both the local and export market. It will provide employment opportunities and bring further development to the local community,” he stated.
In a brief statement, His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio said the construction of the factory was a part of the Human Capital Development drive of the nation where cocoa was now being processed. He, therefore, called on other private sector actors to begin to think of processing local products in the country.
President Bio further stated that he was happy to see that such development was happening during his tenure as leader, and expressed hope that those efforts would lead to the transfer of skills, develop the locality, and above all, generate more revenue for the country.
“This factory will add value to the cocoa business. It is good for our country and economy. I thank you for taking this giant step. God bless you,” he concluded.
